We started off with Miami, then took on the theme parks in Orlando, and enjoyed watching manatees at Blue Springs State Park. Today, slow walks in Mt. Dora — a charming vintage town by the lake.

마운트 도라는 올랜도 북서쪽에 있는 작고 아늑한 도시로, 골동품 가게와 호숫가 풍경, 그리고 카페가 많아요. 분주한 관광지와는 달리, 천천히 걸으며 작은 보물들을 발견하고 오래된 분위기를 느낄 수 있는 곳이에요.
 
Mt. Dora is a small, cozy town northwest of Orlando, full of antique shops, lake views, and cafés. It’s the kind of place where you can stroll slowly, discover little treasures, and enjoy a historic atmosphere away from busy tourist spots.

 
블루 스프링스 공원에서 바로 마운트 도라로 왔어요. 차로 45분 정도 걸렸고, 길이 막히지 않았어요. 처음 느낀 건 이 도시의 여유롭고 작은 마을 같은 매력이었어요. 거리는 알록달록한 빈티지 가게들과 아늑한 카페들로 가득했어요. 아무것도 살 생각이 없어서 그냥 걸으며 분위기를 즐기기로 했어요.
 
We arrived here right after Blue Spring Park. The drive took about 45 minutes with no traffic. The first thing I noticed was the town’s relaxed, small-town charm. The streets were lined with colorful vintage shops and cozy cafés. We didn’t plan to buy anything, so we just decided to walk around and enjoy the atmosphere.
 

 
이곳은 정말 깨끗했고, 전체적으로 조용하고 평화로운 분위기였어요. 한참 걷다 보니 조금 피곤하고 배도 고팠어요.
It was very clean here, and the whole place felt so quiet and peaceful. After walking around for a while, we started to feel tired and hungry.

 
작고 귀여운 미니 푸드코트를 발견했는데, 현지인들이 좋아할 만한 아늑한 분위기였어요. 큐반 샌드위치, 자메이카 치킨, 카레, 심지어 일본 음식까지 다양한 가게가 있었어요. 시간이 얼마 없어서 서둘러 먹고 호수를 보러 가고 싶었거든요.
 
We found a cute little food court with a cozy, local vibe. Different stalls offered everything from Cuban sandwiches and Jamaican chicken to curry and even Japanese dishes. We ate quickly since time was running out—we wanted to visit the lake before it got late.

 
배를 채우고 나서, 우리는 마운트 도라에 있는 자연 보호구역인 팜 아일랜드 공원으로 향했어요. 이 공원에는 호수를 가로지르는 나무로 된 산책로가 포함된 약 1.6킬로미터 길이의 평화로운 순환 코스가 있어요. 길을 따라 악어, 거북이, 그리고 다양한 새들을 볼 수 있기를 기대했답니다. 자연에 둘러싸여 조용히 걷기 좋은 장소였어요.
 
Now that our bellies were full, we headed toward Palm Island Park, a natural preserve in Mt. Dora. The park features a peaceful 1.6-kilometer loop trail with a wooden boardwalk that stretches over the lake. We hoped to spot some alligators, turtles, and a variety of birds along the way. It was a perfect spot for a quiet walk surrounded by nature.
 

 
또 다시 키 큰 나무에 드리운 스페인 이끼가 천장처럼 늘어진 모습에 감탄했어요. 바람이 불 때마다 이끼가 춤추듯 살랑거렸죠. 땅은 거의 늪처럼 보였는데, 조류, 이끼, 낙엽, 나무껍질, 그리고 물이 뒤섞여 있었어요. 나무로 된 산책로가 있어서 정말 다행이었어요. 흐린 물 아래에 어떤 야생동물이 숨어 있을지 아무도 모르니까요.
 
Once again, I was amazed by the curtains of Spanish moss hanging from the tall trees. The moss swayed gently whenever the wind blew, like it was dancing. The ground beneath felt almost like a marsh—a mix of algae, moss, leaves, bark, and water. I was so glad for the boardwalk; who knows what kind of wildlife might be lurking under the murky water.

 
야생동물 첫 발견은 울타리 바로 뒤에 숨어 있던 토끼였어요. 이번엔 바닥에서도 스페인 이끼가 보이더라고요.^^
 
We spotted our first wildlife—a rabbit hiding just behind the fence. And guess what? I saw Spanish moss on the ground this time, too.

오리들도 있었고, 가지에 매달린 스페인 이끼가 물가를 거의 다 덮고 있었어요.
 
Ducks! And more Spanish moss hanging from the branches, almost covering the water on the side.
 

 
그리고 봤어요, 아기 악어! 이름 모르는 엄청 큰 새도 있었는데, 진짜 크더라고요.
 
And there it was — a baby alligator! I also saw a bird I didn’t recognize. It was huge!

 
이번엔 뱀이랑 또 다른 새를 봤어요. 새 덕후분들께 죄송한데, 저는 잘 몰라요. 저도 처음 보는 새들이에요. ㅠㅠ
 
Snake this time, and another bird. Sorry to all the bird lovers—I have no idea what it is. It’s my first time seeing these birds too. ㅠㅠ

 
새들이 더 많이 날아다녔어요—갑자기 나무에서 휙 날아나더라고요. 그리고 또 나무들이 스페인 이끼로 덮여 있었어요. 정말 예뻤어요!
 
More birds were flying—they just suddenly came out from the trees. And again, the trees were covered in Spanish moss. So beautiful!
 

 
그리고 드디어 호수 끝에 도착했어요. 벌써 해가 늦었네요. 좀 더 일찍 왔으면 카약이나 보트를 탈 수도 있었을 텐데요.
And here we are at the end of the lake. It’s getting late now. If we’d come earlier, we could’ve tried kayaking or boating.
 

 

이렇게 마운트 도라에서 느긋하게 걷던 이야기를 마칩니다. 정말 평화롭고 조용한 하루였어요. 잠시 호수를 바라보며 머물렀답니다. 에어비앤비가 좀 멀어서 해질 때까지 기다릴 수 없었어요. 읽어주셔서 감사합니다!

재미있는 사실:

마운트 도라라는 이름에도 불구하고, 이 마을에는 실제 산이 없어요! 이 이름은 초기 개척자가 아내 이름인 도라 앤 드로디(Dora Ann Drawdy)에서 따온 거예요. ‘마운트’라는 단어를 붙이는 건 예전에는 마을 이름을 좀 더 특별하게 보이게 하려고 많이 쓰던 방법이었답니다.
 
Fun Fact:
Even though it’s called “Mount” Dora, there’s actually no mountain in town! The name came from an early settler who named the town after his wife, Dora Ann Drawdy. Adding “Mount” was a popular way back then to make a place sound special — even if it wasn’t on a real mountain.
